How it works
MOD-RAT splits the work across several AIs at once: the heavy lifting goes to the cheap model, the delicate part to the good one, and you decide how much of each.
You write what you want. The app reads your folder and adds what is actually in there: the language, the tests it has, how it builds.
Fat cuts it up and launches the little rats, all at once, each in its own copy. You watch them work, and you stop them.
Mod checks the result on its own — it does not take anyone’s word for it — and gives a verdict: accepted or rejected.
House rule: long but not hard goes to the cheap one. Short but delicate stays with the expensive one.

On the last two you set a maximum with a slider. The slider is a ceiling, not a quota: if the job splits into twelve pieces and the slider says a hundred, twelve go out. You pay for the ones that work.

What they can and cannot do
This is what separates MOD-RAT from letting an AI loose on your machine: every little rat works locked inside its own copy, and the exit door is shut.
They can
- Read and write inside their own copy of the project.
- Run commands and tests.
- Search and read pages on the internet.
- Install the libraries they need, inside their copy.
They cannot
- Leave their folder. Not through shortcuts, not through links.
- Send anything to the internet. Fetching yes; publishing no.
- Push code, deploy, or connect over SSH.
- Install anything on your computer.
- Look into your home network.
Why that line and not another: an AI that reads your disk and can send things out will leak your data without meaning to — a file in the project only has to carry the instruction, and the AI reads it as part of the job. Here, fetching information is allowed; publishing it is not.

What it costs
The trick is not using a bad AI: it is that thinking and typing do not cost the same. The expensive model is spent on organising and judging; the cheap one, on writing code.

These are missions that actually ran, and whose results were checked by hand. They are not projections. The spend runs on your own key and you watch it add up live.
08 · no tricks
The small print
- Windows. It is a desktop app; it does not run in a browser.
- You bring your own key. The AI spend is separate, and it is yours.
- Windows will say "unknown publisher" when you install it. It is not signed yet: the certificate costs money and has not been bought.
- Version 0.9.0. It is complete and it works, but nobody outside has used it yet.

On the way
MOD-RAT exists, installs and works: on 16 August 2026 it ran its first real mission, with real agents. What is missing is not the app — it is a way to charge for it, and people outside to break it before a customer does. When that is done, it will be said here.

- Can a MOD-RAT agent leave my project or send something to the internet?
- No. Each rat works locked inside its copy: it can read, write there, run tests and fetch pages, but it cannot publish anything, deploy, connect over SSH or install anything on your machine.
- Is MOD-RAT for sale?
- Not yet. It exists, installs and works (version 0.9.0, August 2026), but there is no licence and no payment. When there is, it will be said on mod-rat.com.
- Do I need another AI installed to use MOD-RAT?
- No. Just Windows, the installer and your own provider API key. The key is stored encrypted on your machine and never goes through any server of ours.
